Local trainings on advocacy for members of local DPOs and SHGs representing vulnerable and marginalized PwDs
This workshop was conducted during February/2014 for 7 days around the mechanisms of advocacy to lead active advocacy campaigns.50 PwDs within the five targeted marginalized areas participated, in addition to representatives of DPOs and other organizations related to disability – the activity was implemented on two parts. The main objective of this activity is empowering SHGs in marginalized areas to lead advocacy campaigns to advance the disability movement, therefore; changing the reality of PwDs within their communities. This training focused on enhancing PwDs’ skills; as it covered issues related to disability and advocacy to ensure inclusion and plan to implement advocacy initiatives based on PwDs’ needs and results of evaluation to the current situation of disability.
Training to DPOs and CSOs on inclusive and development Approach.
On the 16th of June 2014, a one day training session has been provided to DPOs and CSOs on Inclusive and development approach. The training was provided by Mr. Gianpiero Griffo who is the representative of Disabled people international and Board member of the European Disability Forum, whopresented some articles from the convention and discussed some issues that the convention covers, specially the discrimination and the poverty of social and medical modals.
Joint awareness workshops on Margenalized and Vulnerable PWDs with local identified DPOs/ Groups and Community Workers.
During April/2014, a workshop on local level was implemented for marginalized PwDs (SHGs), with the participation of DPOs selected in the 5 targeted areas (Nablus, Jenin, Qalqilya, Hebron, and Tulkarem), in addition to CBR workers (CBRWs). The workshop was implemented in order to enhance the capacities and opportunities of inclusion, and to develop coordination and networking skills among SHG members, DPOs and CBOs to empower PwDs, focusing on the most marginalized of them.
Coordination, ongoing technical support to DPOs/Groups & community workers & monitoring via regular meeting every 3 months .
The first meeting was implemented at the end of May/2014 and the beginning of June/2014 in the five areas targeted. It is meant to be implemented each 3 months to evaluate marginalized PwDs’ needs, and develop knowledge and skills, which creates equal opportunities in obtaining rights and empowers them to voice their needs and demands productively and sustainably. This boosts their confidence and self-esteem and encourages them to join DPOs in order for them to become advocates for social inclusion within the societal development.
Training to DPOs on methods of networking and tools of Communication between DPOs
On the 22nd and 23rd of June 2013, Stars of Hope has provided training to DPOs on ways to be more gender sensitive and inclusive at their governance and strategy level, and methods of networking and tools of communication between DPOs. The training was held in Ramallah and was provided to representatives of the eight DPOs; Disabled without Borders, Friends of the Disabled, Thalassemia, Al Baseera Society, Deaf Union, Hebron Branch of General Union, Aswaat, and Arab Physical Society. The training has been conducted by a trainer from Agility, Mr. Riad Mustafa and the following topics have been covered;
Understanding how to be more gender sensitive and inclusive at their governance and strategy level
Understanding methods of networking and tools of communication between DPOs.
