Stars of Hope Society for empowering Women with Disabilities in cooperation with Al-Karmel club and the Hebron GUDP's branch organized for a focus group meeting included sixteen Women with Disabilities. The meeting was on Tuesday 10\2\2009 in the GUDP's hole.
The meeting's aim: The main aim for that meeting was to identify the needs and the challenges for Women with disabilities in Hebron according to their own opinions. Since there are many differences between the needs of women with disabilities from one city to another and from a city to a village. Identifying the needs will help Stars of Hope society to plan well for it's future projects and programs covering most of the needs fairly.
The meeting's program Firstly , the meeting was opened by the Stars of Hope Society, the participants introduced themselves and they had introduced to Stars of Hope Society: it's goals, it's programs and it's activities. They had seen some pictures which expressed the activities visually. Where most of the participants expressed directly their desire to be interacted in such as these programs. Secondly, the participants watched the short film (Our-next door neighbor) which reflects Women with Disabilities status discussing specifically the accessibility issue. The film helped in creating a comfortable atmosphere between the participants and the coordinators where they felt that they are watching themselves and they are seeing relevant conditions. Thirdly and at last, a discussion which aimed to identify the needs in Hebron as an area which has it's special culture and limited types of services opened and which released the following needs and challenges: • The significant need for employment • Lack of suitable medical treatment and the technical aids. • Lack of social and associational awareness around the equitable methods in how to deal with people with disabilities • The large need for mutual and complementary work between all the organizations which work in the disability's field • The ignorance towards the recreational and sports' programs by organizations which work in the field of disability in including women with disabilities. • Poor accessible environment as a result of poor activation of the Palestinian Disabled Law. • The need for programs and activities which consensus with Women with Disabilities needs and abilities. • The need for vocational and educational trainings around the rights, the disability's concepts and other issues.
Finally, the participants expressed the importance of the existence of a society working towards the empowering of Women With Disabilities like Stars of Hope Society. In addition, they were encouraged to be involved in it's activities and programs.
